American soprano Angel Blue has recently seen great accomplishments on the world’s most important opera stages, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the San Francisco Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Theater an der Wien, the Frankfurt Opera and the Semperoper Dresden. Ms. Blue begins the 2019/20 season with her return to the Metropolitan Opera in New York, as she and bass Eric Owens portray the sympathetic duo of Porgy and Bess. She will also make her debut at the Staatsoper Hamburg as Mimi, a role which she will later sing at the Seattle Opera. Additional performances will include recitals in Dallas, Texas, Dayton, Ohio and with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and Carnegie Hall in New York.
In addition to her exceptional Metropolitan Opera debut in 2017 as Mimi in La Bohème, Ms. Blue has been highly praised in recent seasons for her portrayal of the same role at the Canadian Opera Company and Violetta in La Traviata at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and for her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. In the summer of 2019, she makes her debut at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in France for her first performances of Tosca, followed by a recital at the Ravinia Festival.
In addition to singing, Angel has been an avid supporter of inner city youth. Ms. Blue is the founder of the non-profit organization Sylvia’s Kids Foundation, an organization that is dedicated to helping America’s teenagers continue their studies in either a trade school, community college, or four-year university once they have completed high school. The SKF scholarship award is given every year in the month of May. To learn more about Sylvia’s Kids Foundation visit www.sylviaskids.org
