David Miller is one of today’s finest young American tenors, having appeared with such leading opera companies as the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, Opera de Montreal, Washington National Opera, and Los Angeles Opera. Roles performed in these houses have included Des Grieux in Manon, the title role in Werther, Romeo in Romeo et Juliette, Alfredo in La Traviata, and Tamino in Die Zauberflöte.
Since December of 2003, David Miller has been a member of the internationally acclaimed quartet Il Divo, touring the world, performing concerts and recording several multi-platinum albums.
Miller first came to attention after his highly acclaimed Washington National Opera debut as Alfredo, having since returned to the theater as Tamino and the Duke in Rigoletto. His debut performances in Washington led to engagements throughout the United States, including debuts with the Los Angeles Opera as Tebaldo in Bellini’s I Capuleti ed I Montecchi, Opera de Montreal as Ferrando in Cosi fan Tutte, the Vancouver Opera as Romeo, and the Michigan Opera Theatre as Des Grieux. Miller has since appeared in Michigan as Tamino and Lensky in Eugene Onegin.
Other international operatic appearances have included Miller’s debut with Opera Australia as Nadir in Les Pecheurs de Perle, as well as his European debut with the Flemish Opera as Cassio in Otello. He made his Italian debut as Des Grieux at the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, conducted by Daniel Oren, followed by his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan as Tony in a new production of West Side Story. Miller also debuted at the Teatro Municipal de Rio de Janeiro as Des Grieux. Following his success at these theaters, the tenor appeared as Rodolfo in the Broadway production of La Boheme, directed by Baz Luhrmann. As a result of these performances, Miller received a special award from the Tony’s committee for excellence in theater. He also appeared in this production at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles.
David Miller is a graduate of the Pittsburgh Opera Center, where he has appeared as Percy in Anna Bolena, the Duke in Rigoletto, Romeo in Romeo et Juliette and Alfredo in La traviata. He also received his Master of Music degree in Opera Theatre and Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
