Ketevan Kemoklidze

Mezzo-soprano Ketevan Kemoklidze is in high demand at major theaters around the world for her extraordinary vocal and stage prowess. In 2002, she made her professional debut as Maddalena in Rigoletto, and she has subsequently appeared at many of the world’s most important opera houses. Particularly known for her portrayal of Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Kemoklidze has performed the role at such leading theaters as the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Opéra National in Montpellier, Deutshe Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Teatro Municipal de Santiago, Opéra Municipal de Marseille and Washington National Opera. In the 2016/17 season, she has sung Adalgisa in Norma at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Maddalena in Rigoletto at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Giovanna Seymour in Anna Bolena at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, and the title role in Carmen at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Terme di Caracalla in Rome. In January of 2018, Kemoklidze will debut with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra as the title role in Carmen.

Kemoklidze’s engagements for the 2015/16 season included Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Opera de Nice, Pierrotto in Linda di Chamounix at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, and Maddalena in Rigoletto with Soirées Lyriques de Sanxay in France. In the 2014/15 season, she made two important and acclaimed debuts: Princess Eboli in Don Carlos at the Teatro Auditorio de El Escorial and Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda at the Polish National Opera. She also sang Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Preziosilla in La forza del destino at the New National Theatre Tokyo, and Isolier in Le comte Ory at the Malmö Opera for her Scandinavian debut. Kemoklidze’s engagements for the 2013/14 season included the title role in Carmen at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg and New National Theatre Tokyo, Maddalena in Rigoletto at the NHK Hall in Tokyo, Olga in Eugene Onegin at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the title role in Berlioz’s La mort de Cleopatre at the Spoleto Festival in Italy, and Preziosilla in La forza del destino at the Washington National Opera. In the 2012/13 season, Kemoklidze sang Maddalena at the Teatro alla Scala, Rosina at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago, and the title role in La Cenerentola with the Los Angeles Opera.

Ketevan Kemoklidze is a frequent and welcome guest at the Teatro alla Scala, where she has performed in Cosi fan tutte, Ascanio in Alba, Salome, Manon, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and A Midsummer’s Night Dream. She has also appeared in Otello, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Linda di Chamounix, and Faust at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and in Le nozze di Figaro and L’arbore di Diana at the Teatro Real de Madrid. Kemoklidze has performed in Cosi fan tutte at the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, Faust and Thaïs at the Teatro Reggio di Torino, Le nozze di Figaro at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago and Opera de Monte Carlo, Cosi fan tutte and Faust at the Sferisterio Opera Festival in Macerata, Maria Padilla at the Wexford Festival in Ireland, and Giulio Cesare for her Greek debut at the Megaron Thessaloniki. In 2010, Kemoklidze made her successful Royal Opera House debut as Stephano in Romeo et Juliette, and she has since performed the role at the Arena di Verona and Teatro La Fenice in Venice. She has also made guest appearances at Oper Graz as Fenena in Nabucco and Princess Calrice in The Love for Three Oranges.

Equally at home on the concert stage, Kemoklidze has performed Ivan the Terrible and Alexander Nevsky on tour with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Yuri Temirkanov, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Vivaldi’s Magnificant at the inauguration of the Veneto International Festival with I Solisti Veneti, Il Dolore di Maria Virgine with I Virtuosi delle Muse, Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder and Rückert Lieder with the Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as performances of Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Kodaly’s Missa Brevis and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.

Kemoklidze has made further concert appearances at the 1st International Music Festival “MITO”, the Stresa Festival, the 43rd International Festival of A. B. Michelangelo, the Wexford Festival, Mozartfest 2006 in Mannheim, and at Theatre du Capitole, Palast Hohenems, Teatro alla Scala, Theatre Basel, Oper Leipzig, and Tbilisi State Opera. She has also appeared in charity concerts, such as the AIDS-Gala at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Deutsche Oper am Rein, Theater Bonn, and elsewhere.

Kemoklidze has been a prizewinner at many of the most prestigious vocal competitions, including the Placido Domingo Operalia Competition, Concourse International de Chant de la Ville de Toulouse, Francisco Viñas Competition of Barcelona, H.G. Belvedere International Competition in Vienna, Elena Obraztsova International Vocal Competition in Saint-Petersburg, and Georgian Musicians National and Youth Competitions.

A native of Tbilisi, Georgia, Ketevan Kemoklidze received her Master’s Degree at the V. Sarajishvili State Conservatoire under Professor G. Kariauli. In 2005, she received an additional Master’s Degree in International Economic Relations. After winning a special prize at the H.G. Belvedere Competition, Kemoklidze was admitted to the Accademia Teatro alla Scala. She also made her film debut as Adriana Ferrarese (Donna Elvira) in Spanish film director Carlos Saura’s film Io, Don Giovanni, winning prizes at various International Film Festivals. Her discography includes Il barbiere di Siviglia, Romeo et Juliette, Faust, Salome, Thais, Otello, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
